For those of you who do not know me, my name is Jenny Lind, I am the founder of PMU Women of Color Conference and I was once like you , looking for a safe space to be in and feel completely accepted, helped  and recognized in this industry.

When I first entered the PMU industry as a woman of color, I had almost nothing. I was newly a single mom, my home was in foreclosure, and I had just $500 left in my savings. My daughter was in college, and my son was only four years old. Sleepless nights led me to scroll through Facebook, where I stumbled upon microblading for the first time. Desperate to turn things around, I used my last bit of money to register for a class. When the opportunity came to partner with the trainer and receive the class for free, I took it without hesitation. That decision would change my life.

For the next year and a half, I worked and trained under a mentor, traveling the world and co-teaching. My first speaking opportunity came at a conference in Salt Lake City. As I looked out into the crowd, I realized no one looked like me. I promised myself that one day, I would change that.

In 2018, a controversial conversation in a Facebook group planted the seed for what would become the PMU Women of Color Conference. I was shocked by the negative comments from well-known artists about women of color in the industry. It fueled my desire to create something that would celebrate us and give us a space to be seen, heard, and appreciated.

Fast forward to 2024, 5 conferences in, and we have built something extraordinary—an inclusive event that celebrates all artists, with a special focus on women of color. I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve created. PMU Women of Color was birthed out of necessity, created for women of color by women of color, and its mission will always be to engage, elevate, celebrate, and educate.
